Organize an Independent #WIAD Event
November 01, 2012 09:45 PM
We understand that global means much more than 15 cities, and sometimes local isn’t local enough when your closest event is 7 hours away! We welcome anybody who wishes to host their own World IA Day event on February 9th, 2013. Here are some suggestions:
Host Your Own Event
We would like to extend to local IA communities that may not be able to participate in one of the 15 official events support in planning their own independent WIAD event. We are hoping that many of you will pull together your own meaningful WIAD that will help curate a world where everybody, everywhere understands why Information Architecture is such a valuable and powerful way of approaching complex information challenges.
How Do I Organize an Independent WIAD Event In My City?
Your event could be as informal as a quick meet-up / BarCamp or as formal as a full-on conference - depending on what you and your peers want to do to build and how you seek to welcome new faces into your local IA community. Working with other leaders as well as new people in your community is encouraged over trying to orchestrate an event yourself. We do ask that you do not organize an event in a city where official events are already planned - rather, please reach out to those coordinators and offer to assist them with the events already in the works.
Will I Get Funding or Marketing Help from #WIAD and the IAI for this Effort?
While we will not be able to offer direct financial support to these non-official events, we do hope that hosting your own independent World IA Day event focused on our theme this year will be something some of you choose to do to promote and support global understanding of Information Architecture. The degree to which the IAI will be able to provide marketing and awareness support for unofficial locations is not clear at this time, but we will commit to using the Institute’s social media presence to promote everything having to do with WIAD, including unofficial events.
If you have any questions or concerns please connect with the executive team at the IAI who would be pleased to discuss ideas or options!
