IAI NEWS -http://www.iainstitute.org
As our last issue of the year, December is dedicated to thanking the many volunteers who made the IA Institute 2008 activities' possible. IAI is a multinational volunteer organization and all of our projects are the work of an active volunteer community. Our members and volunteers supply the ideas, initiative, and energy it takes to provide services to the IA community. Scroll to the end of this newsletter to see the volunteers made 2008 an outstanding year for the IA Institute.
We have also streamlined our newsletter for 2009. You can look forward to shorter entries for news, partners, events, and jobs and all linked to longer content from our website, making the scroll down process quicker.

WHAT'S NEW WITH OUR PARTNERS
ASIS&T Bulletin, Boxes and Arrows, and Web Indexing SIG
ASIS&T Bulletin - http://www.asis.org/bulletin.html
If you have not yet read this Bulletin's The IA Column features Redesigning the Library Experience by Michael Magoolaghan, it is a fascinating account of applying IA principles to create more user centered website. Magoolaghan asserts that this project reinforced his belief that a user-centered design approach offers small public libraries their best chance to meet its challenges. What other settings do you think would benefit from projects like this?
http://www.asis.org/Bulletin/Oct-08/OctNov08_Magoolaghan.html
The current issue of Asis&t's Bulletin features reporting on the current state of standards in information. From Electronic Resource Management to Dublin Core Metadata Initiative, from new international standards in thesauri to the potential use of standards in complex problem solving – this issue will keep you up to date on the important international standards that govern information sharing.

Why We Call Them Participants
by Dana Chisnell
Sometimes we need to take a step back to ensure that our motivations are in the right place. It can be easy to forget that, when people participate in our studies, they are our partners. Dana Chisnell has taken the time to examine these attitudes and help us understand how to avoid falling into such traps.

TRANSLATION OF INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE - http://iainstitute.org/translations/
Janette Shew led our translations initiative this year, working closely with Operations Manager, Noreen Whysel, to organize the publication of new sites.
