Following the successful Information Architecture retreat in California last October, additional retreats have been organized in Germany and New York.

The first retreat will take place in Frankfurt, Germany on May 28 and 29, 2005. Other than the opening keynote, the entire retreat will be held in German. More information can be found on the retreat website: http://www.iatagung.de.

The second retreat has been scheduled for October 7, 8, and 9 in New York. Titled “New Challenges In Information Architecture”, attendees will meet at the Edith Macy Conference Center in Briarcliff Manor, New York (about 45 minutes by train from Midtown Manhattan) to share ideas, discuss issues, and be part of shaping the vibrant and evolving field of information architecture. Further information about the retreat in New York will be available soon.

Last year’s retreat focused on the “Future of Information Architecture”, and explored where both the discipline and its practitioners are headed. Forty Information Architects from all over North America met at Asilomar in California for two days of intense sessions and vibrant discussions about the practice.

Though sponsored by the IA Institute, the retreats are organized by volunteers. If you’re interested in organizing a retreat in your area, you are encouraged to apply for sponsorship through the IA Institute’s event sponsorship program: http://iainstitute.org/pg/ia_events_sponsorship.php.
