Recap: The Future of IA Retreat

October 13, 2004 03:19 AM

Held the first weekend in October, the Future of Information Architecture Retreat was a resounding success. About 45 people from four countries met at the Asilomar conference center in California and engaged in two days of workshops, conversations, and socializing. It was as educational as a conference but more intense, with an environment that allowed for more interaction among attendees.

There's already talk of holding more retreats like this, in Latin America and the US East Coast. It's not hard to plan. For this event, Christina Wodtke took the initiative and selected a location. A small committee then recruited speakers and planned simple logistics. The Institute contributed some money to defray costs through our event sponsorship program. AIfIA members can do this, too, anywhere in the world: it'd be great to see more retreats happen.
