Job description

Move Inc. is seeking an Information Architect to join the User Experience Design team in San Jose, CA. This team is responsible for our flagship site,, as well as a variety of forward thinking B2B and B2C sites. This Information Architect role will report to the Director of UED, and will visualize and document the structure of interactive experiences for a variety of projects and initiatives including both websites and mobile applications. Duties and Responsibilities

The Information Architect is fluent in the art and science of visualizing and documenting interactions and experiences. They should be most comfortable when defining and creating site structure, interaction flows, and detailing taxonomy. Further, they should have at least a basic understanding of what it takes to bring a site to life – HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and so forth. They should have a deep appreciation for simple, sleek, usable interfaces. A focus on user-centered design, and an understanding of the way effective designs achieve business goals is a must. They should also be able to interpret consumer and customer needs, present design concepts, and effectively communicate with stakeholders and their adjacencies.

An Information Architect has robust experience presenting and managing relationships with stakeholders on a variety of user experience issues that support both the business and a strong user experience. They manage the success of the user experience in cross-functional teams that include Product Managers, User Researchers, Business Unit representatives and Engineering teams. They follow and contribute to the development of best practices for realization of designs and proper delivery of collateral. They live in the world where business goals, research, and experiences overlap, and arm themselves with those understandings to drive towards standard-setting solutions. An Information Architect values success, risk and failure equally.

Job duties of this role include

Diagram site architectures and user interfaces.
Employs user-centered design methods to develop user interface specifications including site maps, flow diagrams, wireframes, and related documentation.
Works closely with product management to clarify and define business requirements as they apply to the user interface content.
Works closely with user experience research to translate findings from usability studies, surveys, etc. into improved user experiences. Makes design decisions driven by research when appropriate but also has a keen sense of what will work well.
Appreciates critical feedback (both giving and receiving) and seeks it out in reviews with peers, stakeholders and research. Really listens to the feedback and can balance multiple, sometimes conflicting, inputs when arriving at a final design.
Contributes to the creation, adoption and improvement of Move, Inc. design patterns and guidelines and their consistent deployment across various website properties.

Job qualifications

Education, Skills and Experience

Degree in Human Computer Interaction (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience designing successful interactive websites/applications as a key member of a user experience team.
Expert level understanding of information architecture, interaction design, user experience, and content strategy
Familiar with HTML, CSS, JavaScript concepts and modern browser capabilities. Other coding skills not required but considered a plus.
Expert knowledge of user-centered design principles, web design best practices, visual trends and emerging web technologies.
Excellent organization, communication, interpersonal, and time management skills. Strong attention to detail.
Experience with collaborative thinking and decision-making with and interdisciplinary, open-minded approach to problem-solving
A sense of humor and passion for adventure is a plus.

Additional Requirements

IA portfolio needs to show applied knowledge of usability, user-centered design, and content strategy.
IA portfolio should show strong capacity for both logical and creative thinking displaying attention to detail in every aspect.
