Interaction Designers & Front-End UI Developers

Full-time, permanent position.

Job description

Walt Disney Animation Studios is growing our interaction design team and looking for individuals with skills along the continuum from interaction design to UI development. Ideal candidates have demonstrated talents in the following areas:

Design: Habitually distills complex problems down to essentials. Knows when to rough things out, and when to refine. Knows how to choose the "right" level at which to engage a challenge. Comfortable moving between forest and trees, strategy and tactics. Ideally, has broad-based experience with IxD on a range of desktop, web, mobile and embedded platforms.

Develop: Has considerable experience with software development practices. Able to design and develop larger scale software systems to solve complex workflows. Delivers user experiences that are intuitive and efficient, while also making the underlying logic and data structures robust and sustainable.

Evangelize: Able to present the achievements of the interaction design team in a way that showcases our strengths, but does not over-promise the impact that this team can have.

Research: Displays a natural curiosity for what/how/why people do what they do - individually and collaboratively - to get things done.

Tinker: Relishes the opportunity to build UX prototypes in any medium necessary to communicate a concept - whether it be software, hardware, cardboard or video.

Educate: Able to raise awareness/skill/expectations regarding what constitutes effective UI design within our studio's context, and how to do it.

Job qualifications

Requirements:

If you are an Interaction Designer who develops:

BS in human factors, graphic design or related field. MS preferred.
5+ years professional experience in user interaction design.
Extensive knowledge and capabilities with HTML, CSS, and AJAX/JavaScript.
Knowledge of major multimedia, design, and operating system software
(Photoshop, Flash, Fireworks and Illustrator, Linux, Qt, pyQt).

If you are a UI Developer who designs:

BS in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, MS preferred.
5+ years of object-oriented programming and design.
Significant experience using C++ in a professional environment.
Additional expertise: computer graphics applications such as Maya and Houdini, openGL, Qt, Python, Unix/Linux
